Just get engaged? It's time to start preparing! This article will help you organize your thoughts and begin to plan your dream wedding. The holidays can be a popular time to get engaged, so here are some quick tips to help get you started on planning your wedding.

What Should You Do as Soon as You Get Engaged?

Everyone does things in their own order, but one of the first things many people want to do is call their parents and their close friends. Those close to you don't want to see about your engagement on social media; they want to know about it from you! From there, you can get a manicure and start getting those engagement ring photos.

Start an Inspiration Book

At the early stages of planning a wedding, start an inspiration book. Collect photos of all of the fantastic things you've seen, from dresses to wedding cakes. This will help you narrow down on the style of your wedding early on. You can also take a look at some books.

Figure Out Your Budget

Look through your finances to determine exactly how much of a budget you're working with. Select the three things you want to spend the most money on — for instance, the cake, dress, and food. This will help you budget for individual items and help you avoid over-spending. No one wants to start their marriage out with financial issues!

Decide on a Venue

Catering, photographers, and bands all need to be booked well in advance, but there's nothing that needs to be booked as in advance than a venue. A venue has to be selected to suit your budget and needs and often has to be booked up to a year in advance, depending on how desirable the location is.

Set the Date and Send Out the Invitations

Once you have a venue booked, it's time to set a date and send out the invitations, and that's when you're going to have to kick your planning into high gear. Once there's a date set, you have a deadline: you need to get everything booked and organized before then.

Get the Clothes, the Cake, and the Catering

Your wedding dress, bridesmaids' dresses, the wedding, and the catering are all going to come next. Make sure to make a checklist after you've decided what you want at your wedding, so you aren't missing anything. Your checklist can also double as your budget list, so you know whether you're going over budget.

A few other things to consider:

  • Who will you use for your photography?
  • Will you have an open bar or a cash bar?
  • What will the entertainment be?
  • Who will officiate your ceremony?
  • Are you holding your reception separately?
